About O'Neill
Sometime around 1952, Jack O'Neill opened the first surf shop in a garage across the Great Highway. He shaped a few balsa surfboards and sold accessories like paraffin wax and few vests (glued together from neoprene). When the vests started selling, Jack decided to go into the wetsuit business. His friends laughed. They asked him what he planned to do for business after the handful of surfers in the area had bought one. Jack said he'd cross that bridge when he got to it.

5 out of 5 stars Advice on buying a size   August 10, 2010
K. Gardner (Florida)
I purchased this shirt and found the reviews on here about sizing to be very helpful. Because of the Amazon reviews, I finally decided to go to a surf store and try on, before purchasing. I normally wear a medium to large men's shirt. I am right in between, depending on the brand of the shirt. I found the Large Oneil shirt to be very tight in the dressing room, so I purchased the XL size. Which fits great when I am not in the water.

WHAT I CAN ADD TO THE OTHER REVIEWS IS THIS....once in the water, because the shirt is mostly nylon, it seems to get a bit looser and stretchy. I bought it to swim laps in, so it is a lit bit looser when swimming than I had hoped.

In hind sight, maybe the large would have been better in the water. If you plan on doing a lot of swimming in this shirt, you may want to go up just one size from your normal shirt size, but it will not be a comfortable fit for you when it is dry. My wife informed me that panty hose get stretchy when wet, which are made of nylon. So do these rash guard shirts.

I love the shirt for it's sunburn protection and I can stay longer in the pool without getting burned.

3 out of 5 stars Good product, too small for me   August 3, 2010
Nikolaos V. Schizas
I followed the advice of previous buyers and ordered a shirt two sizes larger than my T-shirts but it was way still too tight for me. If you have wide shoulders and relatively big arms it may be very tight. Otherwise the shirt looks and feels good.

5 out of 5 stars rashguard/sunguard   July 26, 2010
James Michael Marentette
When ordering be sure to order 2 sizes above if you want a comfortable "snug" fit. I am a man 6'2" and 220 pounds with athletic build and 2 sizes above normal size was perfect "snug" fit. Does tremendous job blocking sun. Have used it 4 entire weekends in copious amount of sun with no stinging sun burn after. Buy two if you can find 2 sizes above your normal. All brands are made small for tight fit. I bought XXXL and it fits perfect. Everyday shirts I am XL.

3 out of 5 stars Sizes run EXTREMELY small   December 31, 2009

I bought this shirt for my husband, who normally wears a medium. I heard these ran small, so I ordered a large. When he tried it on, he could barely breathe it was so tight. I had return it and order an XL, which is still extremely snug, but at least allows him to get oxygen. (In case you were wondering, he is six foot one and weighs 160--not an XL sized guy.) Other than the inconvenience of having to return my purchase, we are happy with the shirt. It seems well constructed and the color is nice.
