About Speedo In 1914, Speedo was founded in Australia by Alexander MacRae, a 22-year-old Scottish immigrant who arrived in the country in 1910. The company began when MacRae Hosiery manufacturers, established by Alexander in 1914, extended the manufacture of underwear to swimwear and became MacRae Knitting Mills. A naming competition was held by the staff in 1928 and won by a Captain Parsonson, who coined the slogan, "Speed on in your Speedos." In 1929, the first swimsuits were in production and it didn't take long for Speedo to successfully establish itself. World War II caused the brand turn over 90% of it's manufacturing to war production, providing the armed services with vital equipment such as mosquito nets. After the war, Speedo opened a new factory and was able to re-establish itself, due to increased demand for swimsuits. In 1951, Speedo Knitting Mills (Holdings) Ltd, was incorporated and became a publicly traded company on the Sydney Stock exchange. Speedo hit the international stage in earnest, at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games, and a few years later the brand grew on a more global scale. Export sales to the USA began and an international division was set up to monitor trade in New Zealand, Japan and South Africa. The expansion of the brand continued, and in 1976, Speedo was appointed as the official swimwear for the 1976 Montreal Olympics, where 52 out of 54 countries wore their swimsuits. Speedo continues to make its mark in the pool and on the beach today. Many world class athletes who wear Speedo include U.S. phenomenon Michael Phelps, legendary Australian swimmer Grant Hackett, world record holder Kosuke Kitajima from Japan, and Holland's Inge de Bruijn. Great Gloves for resistance training that are less strenuous than Swim Paddles September 5, 2010 Jeffrey A (Miami) I chose these Swim Gloves for resistance training since I wanted a workout that is less strenuous than one using Swim Paddles.
As a beginner, if you swim with the golved fingers closed (normal freestlye), you get a great lower resistance workout. By gradually opening out your fingers in the webbed gloves, your workout becomes more strenuous - even approaching that of Swim paddles!
I love the comfort and natural feel of these Speedo Aqua Fit Swim Gloves.
I can even adjust my goggles without having to take off my gloves ...something that is impossible to do with paddles on!
I chose the color blue because it complements my Speedo Lap Counter Watch, a color which I find suitable for casual wear around the pool/beach.
Swim glove August 31, 2010 Nunney I have recently taken up swimming again after some surgery. I swim lengths every day and wanted to increase my speed and at the same time, increase my strength. The resistance given by the use of the gloves is gentle and it has increased my upper arm condition. It has also increased my speed by about 15 seconds on a length. A good, well made product and I highly recommend them to anyone
Speedo aqua Gloves August 10, 2010 BR (Poconos PA) These gloves are great--just what I had hoped for. Another reviewer was helpful in stating that the size runs large, so ordering a small rather than a medium was the right choice for me.
nice one August 4, 2010 Rshea It was a little hard to get into the thumbs but I did a yoga flex and once it fit in it was awesome.
work fine July 18, 2010 S. Lipman (LA, USA) Work as advertised. Snug fitting gloves give added resistance and after a few laps you can feel the difference in shoulders and arms. Quality seems good. No sign of wear even after 'spinning' them in health club machine to dry them.
